- Who is Sensei?
Normally the highest ranking black belt in the school is the only person called
Sensei. However, if they recognize
another person in your school as Sensei, then you are expected to follow their
example.
- Who is Sempai?
The Sempai is usually a senior student who is responsible for assisting the
junior students in learning the correct etiquette and techniques. This title is appointed by the Sensei of the
Dojo. A new Dojo Director will be called Sempai until he is recognized as a Sensei by the Direct Sensei.
- What do I do when Sensei or Sempai enters the Dojo at the beginning of
class?
You IMMEDIATELY stop what you are doing, face towards Sensei or Sempai, be very
quiet and stand at attention with your hands at your side.
- Will I learn other Martial Arts?
Yes, you will learn break falls and rolls from Jiu
Jitsu, Escrima (stick self defense), Tai Chi, Jiu Jitsu, Kobudo and other arts.
- Is it important to train 2 times per week?
If at all possible, to maintain a steady pace of progress, coming to class twice a week
will ensure you learn and apply your new skills and knowledge
- Can I go to tournaments?
Yes. Upcoming tournaments are listed in the newsletter and on the bulletin board. We encourage everyone to try a least one or
two tournaments - many students find that they love them! We sponsor inner (our own Dojo)
tournaments. We also attend other open tournaments with other karate schools.
- How long will it take me to go from belt to belt?
That will depend on you. Each person trains at their own level and speed, and should
not be compared to others. What's important is that steady training will bring steady progress.
- Can I go to seminars and other school events?
Some seminars and events held here at the Dojo are divided according to age and belt
level; just make sure you follow the guidelines AND get your
parent's/guardian's permission! If you're not sure if you can go just ask the friendly staff at the front counter.
